Issue:
Civil 3D used to bring point clouds files such as LAS, TXT, etc. directly into drawing in 2017. Now it requires use of ReCAP? Is .LAS format supported in Civil 3D anymore?Causes:
This is as designed. Previous to Civil 3D 2018, it was possible to import .LAS point clouds directly through Civil 3D using the legacy point cloud utility. The legacy point cloud utility does not support newer versions of LAS such as 1.4 so Civil 3D no longer use the legacy point cloud tools.Solution:
Use ReCap to convert the LAS, ASCII, etc. files into a format that can be used or create an .RCP file. Those RCP/RCS files can attach to Civil 3D drawing and create surface form it.Note: This article describes importing point cloud LAS file and not Layer State file from AutoCAD. Hi, I received a MXD-file (ArcGis/ArcView), is there a possibility to open this file in AutoCad, as we don't have ArcView. Thanks, Karel. Having the CAD file saved to a 2010 AutoCAD format worked fine, came right in to ArcGIS. Does anyone know if there is a patch for this? This is the first time in many years that I haven't been able to bring a dwg into ArcGIS as is. My AutoCAD-using coworkers tell me 2012 and 2014 CAD is problematic. I had same problem, it turns out that the some Autocad files can contain an internal coordinate system definition. If you create a.prj file (projection file of your current ArcGIS dataset) I just copied one from an existing shape file, renamed it to match the acad file name, apparently this over rules the internal Acad projection.
